Basically, Doyle measures the amount of future talent (i.e., total projected wins above replacement added over the next six seasons) a team should be willing to give up — in the form of prospects or other team-controlled assets — in exchange for adding an extra WAR of rental talent in 2019, with the goal of maximizing its total expected championships in both the short and long term. Rhys Hoskins smacked a go-ahead single in the 15th inning, Roman Quinn hit his first homer of the season, and the visiting Philadelphia Phillies edged the Detroit Tigers 3-2 on Tuesday. Philadelphia reliever Ranger Suarez (3-0) pitched scoreless 10th and 11th innings. Continue to Article

Long after a fan just made his way onto the field in the sixth inning before being apprehended, the Phillies beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-1 Sunday on Rhys Hoskins' home run in the 11th inning. Detroit

Despite scoring just three runs in the final two games, the Phillies took two of three from the Pirates to remain entrenched in the National League wild-card race as next week's trade deadline (and big decisions for the front office) steams toward us. There are no more August waiver deals, the kind that once brought the Phillies Jamie Moyer and Matt Stairs and the Houston Astros Justin Verlander in 2017, two months before they won the World Series.
