Tampa Bay leadoff man Travis d'Arnaud hit three homers, including a go-ahead three-run shot with two outs in the ninth inning off Aroldis Chapman, and the Rays stunned the host New York Yankees 5-4 Monday night in the opener of a four-game series. The second-place Rays moved within five games of the first-place Yankees in the American League East thanks to the most productive night of d'Arnaud's career. Baltimore Orioles third baseman Hanser Alberto singled to lead off the ninth inning on Sunday to spoil the Tampa Bay Rays' attempt to become the first team in major league history to throw a combined perfect game. The first 24 Orioles were retired in order before the right-handed-hitting Alberto sent a soft single through the right side of the infield off Rays left-hander Ryan Yarbrough to break up the perfect game. Right-hander Ryne Stanek was the opener, and he struck out two while taking care of the first two innings. Continue to Article

Baltimore
Sighting fan safety and experience as the main reasons, the Baltimore Orioles are extending the protective netting all the way to the outfield foul pole lines in the lower sections. This change appends the Orioles to a short list of Major League Baseball teams deciding to move in this direction, most notably, after the incident that occurred earlier this season in which Chicago Cubs' center fielder Albert Almora Jr. hit a foul ball in Houston that struck and injured a young child in the stands. The young child suffered a suffered skull fracture and seizure. Continue to Article
