Jason Heyward's two-out single in the bottom of the eighth inning drove in the go-ahead run, and the Chicago Cubs opened the second half with a 4-3 victory over the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday. Heyward's heroics came after the Cubs blew a 3-0 lead in the top of the eighth. The FiveThirtyEight predictions make it even clearer how tight this division is: the Chicago Cubs lead with just a 42 percent probability of winning the Central — making them the only current division favorite with less than a 70 percent chance to win — and four teams have a double-digit probability, including Chicago, the Milwaukee Brewers (26 percent), St. Louis Cardinals (14 percent) and Pittsburgh Pirates (11 percent). The Kansas City Royals made a speedy roster adjustment Friday, as outfielder Terrance Gore was designated for assignment. Utilized primarily for his base-stealing abilities and outfield play, Gore was 13-for-18 in stolen base attempts in his limited duties this season. The Royals already have speedster Billy Hamilton on the roster, so Gore was removed after outfielder Bubba Starling was called up to the major leagues for the first time Thursday. Eloy Jimenez and Jose Abreu homered and Ivan Nova pitched 5 2/3 shutout innings to earn his first home victory of the season as the Chicago White Sox defeated the Chicago Cubs 3-1 on Sunday. Jimenez's 16th homer was his second this season against his original organization, a two-run shot to straightaway center in the fourth inning that provided all the offense the White Sox would need.
