The Detroit Tigers extended the contract of Al Avila, the executive vice president of baseball operations and general manager who is overseeing the rebuilding of the organization. The team announced a multi-year extension but did not reveal the length or financial terms of the deal. The Detroit Tigers placed outfielder JaCoby Jones on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a lower back strain and recalled outfielder Victor Reyes from Triple-A Toledo. Jones left the first game of Wednesday's day-night doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox in the fifth inning with back spasms. Major League Baseball announced Wednesday there were record merchandise sales for one day, and at a single venue, for the series between American League East rivals at London Stadium.
