Nick Markakis and Austin Riley homered on consecutive pitches in the eighth inning Saturday night for the Atlanta Braves, who took advantage of the latest implosion by the New York Mets' bullpen to post a 5-4 win. The Braves have won the first two games of the three-game series against the Mets, who have dropped seven straight. New York has led in the sixth inning or later in five of those losses. Mike Soroka earned the win by tossing 6 1/3 strong innings Friday night, and the Atlanta Braves never trailed after fellow rookie Austin Riley launched a two-run homer in the second inning as they defeated the host New York Mets 6-2. The Mets lost their sixth straight and fell to a National League-worst 9-17 in June. Soroka (9-1) allowed two runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out four as he once again became eligible to qualify for the NL ERA title. Continue to Article

Called up from Triple-A earlier in the day, Kimbrel struck out Brian McCann looking and induced a groundout from Johan Camargo to start the ninth inning. Continue to Article

Atlanta
The Chicago Cubs called up relief pitcher Craig Kimbrel before Thursday afternoon's finale of a four-game series against the visiting Atlanta Braves. Kimbrel, a seven-time All-Star, sat on the free agent market until signing a reported three-year deal worth $43 million on June 7. The hard-throwing right-hander worked out at the Cubs' spring training facility and made four appearances at Triple-A Iowa -- with a 2.45 ERA in 3 2/3 innings -- before the call-up.
