Travis d'Arnaud contributed a key hit to each of two big early uprisings and left-hander Ryan Yarbrough pitched six strong innings Sunday, allowing the visiting Tampa Bay Rays to earn a split of their four-game series against the Oakland Athletics with an 8-2 victory. Avisail Garcia and Joey Wendle collected three hits apiece while Austin Meadows matched d'Arnaud with three RBIs, helping the Rays win for just the second time in seven games on their 10-game trip. After the A's had taken a 1-0 lead in the second on a Rays error, the visitors grabbed the lead for good in the third off Oakland starter Brett Anderson (7-5). Continue to Article

First baseman Pete Alonso set the New York Mets record for home runs by a rookie in a season when he blasted his 27th on Sunday. He also extended his National League record for most home runs by a rookie before the All-Star break, which he set Saturday. Continue to Article

Albert Pujols' emotional return to St. Louis continued Saturday as Cardinals fans erupted in a massive ovation when the Los Angeles Angels slugger belted a home run in a 4-2 loss against his former team. Pujols, playing at Busch Stadium as a visitor for the first time in his career, had already received a rapturous welcome from Cardinals fans on Friday -- his acrimonious departure for the Angels after the 2011 season forgotten. Pujols, cheered in every at-bat, belted a solo homer off Cardinals starter Dakota Hudson in the seventh inning, trimming the Cards' lead to 4-1. Continue to Article

Matt Chapman highlighted a two-run seventh inning with a tie-breaking double, sending the Oakland Athletics to a 4-2 victory over the visiting Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon. The win was Oakland's fourth in six games against the Rays over the past two weeks. After twice seeing one-run leads disappear, the A's took charge for good in the seventh, when Beau Taylor drew a leadoff walk from Rays reliever Diego Castillo (1-6). Continue to Article
