New York Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius played five innings of defense and went 2 for 4 with a walk Monday at extended spring training in his first game action since Tommy John surgery on Oct. 17. "It was good," Gregorius said. Playing against Detroit Tigers minor leaguers and in front of Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner, Gregorius singled twice and cleanly fielded three grounders but had an error for an errant throw to first base. The Chicago White Sox said Saturday that left-hander Carlos Rodon is expected to return in the second half of the 2020 season following Tommy John surgery this week. Rodon was 3-2 with a 5.19 ERA in seven starts this season, striking out 46 batters in 34 2/3 innings. Shortstop Didi Gregorius could return to the lineup for the New York Yankees next month, and outfielder Giancarlo Stanton could be back sooner, manager Aaron Boone said Saturday. Gregorius had Tommy John surgery on his throwing elbow last October after sustaining the injury in Game 2 of the American League Division Series.
