The San Jose Sharks hope to tie their Round 1 series against the Vegas Golden Knights, but they'll need to do so without Joe Thornton. In making the decision, the Department of Player Safety explained that there was head contact that was “avoidable,” and noted that Thornton had been suspended before (during the 2010-11 season). During NBC Sports California's Facebook live Q&A on Sunday morning, Sharks radio announcer Dan Rusanowsky pointed to Vegas' de facto second line of Max Pacioretty, Paul Stastny and Mark Stone as the combo that San Jose needed to watch extra closely. One of the NHL's newest rivalries is certainly reaching fever pitch after San Jose Sharks veteran Joe Thornton delivered an uncharacteristically questionable hit on Vegas Golden Knights forward Tomas Nosek. Nosek attempted to corral a loose puck in his own end with his head down and didn't see Thornton coming. A split-second after Nosek got rid of the puck, Thornton skated by and delivered a crushing shot to Nosek's head, earning a two-minute minor for an illegal check to the head. Continue to Article
