Alex Gordon could smile about his base-running mistake because of an otherwise great game. Gordon homered, doubled twice and singled as the Kansas City Royals stopped a 10-game losing streak, racing to a big lead and beating the Cleveland Indians 8-1 Friday night. ''Yeah, bad turns around the bases,'' Gordon said of getting thrown out at third while trying to stretch his second double into a triple. Continue to Article

After the Mariners tacked on a run in the top of the 10th, Merrifield got one more opportunity to bat in the bottom of the inning. With two outs in the 10th, Merrifield struck out to end the game. While the end of the streak came in disappointing fashion, Merrifield still managed to set the Royals record for longest hitting streak in team history. Continue to Article

Merrifield's RBI bunt single in the seventh tied it at 5 and moved him past Hall of Famer George Brett for the Royals mark. Continue to Article

After giving up four runs in four innings in his first start of the season last weekend in Kansas City, Lopez gave up six runs in five innings in the White Sox home opener Friday on the South Side. It was pretty ugly - especially once the fourth Mariners home run of the day, off reliever Jace Fry, put the White Sox behind - and would've been the lasting image from this day at Guaranteed Rate Field if not for a White Sox comeback, fueled by some shaky Mariners relief pitching and a clutch hit from the red-hot Yoan Moncada. Porcello only lasted 2 2/3 innings against the Seattle Mariners in his first start of the season. He allowed nine runs, the second-highest total of his Red Sox career (though only four were earned), and struggled with his command, walking four batters and allowing six hits in the game. He is looking to bounce back ahead of his start in Arizona on Friday night and recently commented on his performance in the opener. Continue to Article
