The Boston Bruins must turn over the page instead turning over the puck Saturday night if they are to square their first-round playoff series against the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs. The Maple Leafs won the opener of the best-of-seven series 4-1 on Thursday night in Boston. "I think, honestly, if we just manage the puck better, it will allow us to play more to our strength," Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said. Continue to Article

Bruce Cassidy on Bruins Game 1 loss: 'They outplayed us at every position and they outcoached us' originally appeared on nbcsportsboston.com BRIGHTON, Mass – After seeming a bit stunned following a disappointing Game 1 loss to the Maple Leafs where the Bruins were outmaneuvered and outplayed by Toronto, Bruce Cassidy was honest and unmerciful about his team's performance a day later. The Bruins coach also wasn't sparing himself any criticism after a plan to check the Maple Leafs with their fastest skating group really didn't work out and instead resulted in a 4-1 loss where urgency and execution weren't even close to a playoff level. It all started a couple of days ago when Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy said he was icing "his fastest team" for the start of the B's first-round playoff series against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Certainly it was just minor roster decisions in the grand scheme of things with rookie Karson Kuhlman dressing on the second line rather than 34-year-old power forward David Backes, but the tone it was setting was that the Bruins were allowing the Maple Leafs to dictate style and pace of play to them rather than the other way around. Boston
Bruins accept responsibility in lifeless Game 1 loss: "We weren't playing the right way the whole way through" originally appeared on nbcsportsboston.com BOSTON – The Bruins are going to need to go back to the drawing board after a Game 1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The B's mismanaged the puck throughout the game, allowed far too many breakaway opportunities in the second period when Toronto took control of the game, played way too cute in the offensive zone and simply didn't do anything well enough at either end of the ice in a 4-1 loss to the Maple Leafs at TD Garden. Mitch Marner scored on a penalty shot in the second period as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the mistake-prone Boston Bruins 4-1 in the opening game of their NHL playoff series on Thursday. Marner, who finished with two goals, helped get the visiting Leafs playoff run off to a roaring start in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference series. "We know we got a quick team," said Marner.
