Milwaukee
When they pursued him this past offseason, the Angels probably figured they weren't going to get the Cahill who won 18 games as a 22-year-old for the Oakland A's in 2010. But when they signed the 31-year-old journeyman -- making them his seventh major league team -- to a one-year, $9 million free agent contract, they were hoping that he could at least give them what he gave the A's last year eight quality starts in 20 outings. Milwaukee Brewers slugger Christian Yelich became only the sixth player in Major League Baseball history to smash a home run in his team's first four games of the season on Sunday. The 27-year-old US outfielder, last year's National League Most Valuable player, blasted a fastball from St. Louis right-hander Michael Wacha over the right-field wall in the first inning to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead. The other major leaguers to open the season with four homers in as many games were Willie Mays for San Francisco in 1971, Mark McGwire for St. Louis in 1998, Nelson Cruz for Texas in 2011, Chris Davis for Baltimore in 2013 and Trevor Story for Colorado in 2016. Christian Yelich became the first MVP to homer in the first three games of the following season, Josh Hader closed things out with an immaculate inning and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2 on Saturday night. Travis Shaw and Mike Moustakas also homered off Cardinals starter Dakota Hudson, and Brandon Woodruff (1-0) struck out five while pitching five innings of two-run ball. Yelich made a sliding catch in right field in the top of the first inning, then took Hudson deep for a solo shot in his first at-bat. Continue to Article
