This was the type of win that Detroit fans can be encouraged by — not only did the Tigers rally in the late innings, but one of their top young players delivered the key home run. Christin Stewart hit a two-out grand slam in the seventh inning, lifting Detroit to a 7-4 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday. Reynaldo Lopez finished the 2018 season in such a strong fashion, it's hard to remember days like this. After giving up four runs in four innings in his first start of the season last weekend in Kansas City, Lopez gave up six runs in five innings in the White Sox home opener Friday on the South Side. It was pretty ugly - especially once the fourth Mariners home run of the day, off reliever Jace Fry, put the White Sox behind - and would've been the lasting image from this day at Guaranteed Rate Field if not for a White Sox comeback, fueled by some shaky Mariners relief pitching and a clutch hit from the red-hot Yoan Moncada. Porcello only lasted 2 2/3 innings against the Seattle Mariners in his first start of the season. He allowed nine runs, the second-highest total of his Red Sox career (though only four were earned), and struggled with his command, walking four batters and allowing six hits in the game. Suzuki, who retired last month during MLB's opening series in Japan against the Oakland A's, delivered a message to the Japanese government saying, “I'll strive to be able to receive the award at the end of my life."
