Dirk Nowitzki was mum all season on his future plans but after a rousing performance in the Dallas Mavericks' home finale Tuesday, the star finally announced the decision everyone expected. "As you guys might expect, this is my last home game." Nowitzki made his much-anticipated retirement announcement after delivering a season-high 30-point performance, with five 3-pointers, against the Suns. The San Antonio Spurs are down to the final game of the regular season and still have something -- a lot, in fact -- to play for when they host the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday at the AT&T Center. The Spurs have already clinched a spot in the postseason for the record-tying 22nd straight season but need to beat the Mavericks to guarantee that they will avoid playing defending NBA champion Golden State in the first round of the playoffs. Dirk Nowitzki scored a season-high 30 points and then announced his retirement in the 40-year-old's final home game, a 120-109 victory for the Dallas Mavericks over the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night. Nowitzki told the crowd, ''As you might expect, this is my last home game.'' That was after speeches from Larry Bird and others he idolized growing up in Germany. Russell Westbrook scored 29 points, but it was Paul George's corner 3-pointer in the final seconds that sent the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 112-111 home win over the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night.
