If there ever was a seven-minute stretch that perfectly summed up the Edmonton Oilers' 2018-19 season, it happened on Tuesday night against the Colorado Avalanche. Leading 2-0 nothing in the second period, and with a goal already in the bank by Milan Lucic — the $6 million man's sixth of the season — the Oilers reverted to their true colors in a span of 7:08. A promising looking contest, one day after Connor McDavid declared that he was “really, really” frustrated with how this season has gone in Edmonton, the Oilers forgot how to play hockey and Mikko Koskinen forgot how to stop pucks and the walls came crashing in. The Arizona Coyotes' playoff hopes took a major hit, and the team also lost goalie Darcy Kuemper to an eye injury in a 3-1 loss to the visiting Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday. Already in full desperation mode, the Colorado Avalanche found an even higher level. Nathan MacKinnon and Tyson Barrie scored a minute apart to ignite a four-goal second period as the playoff-chasing Avalanche rallied for a 6-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. ''It just kind of shows how much character we have in this room,'' Barrie said of the comeback. Continue to Article

The St. Louis Blues were going nowhere two months into the 2018-19 season, and on Dec. 9, following a 6-1 home loss to Vancouver, St. Louis was 10-14-4 and struggling. Since that drubbing at the hands of the Canucks they have gone 32-14-4 and not only have clinched a postseason berth but they have a shot at winning the Central Division. St. Louis (42-28-8) trails Winnipeg and Nashville by two points, and with wins in its last four games can reach the 100-point mark. Continue to Article
