New Jersey
For a game between two teams getting ready to pack their equipment and go on vacation at the end of the week, the New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers played some old-fashioned heated hockey. There were three fights, up-and-down action and something different, the Devils finally won a game. "The thing that surprised me was how intense the game was, in a game where two teams are out of the playoffs, but rivals, and I am sure this was an important game to them as it was to us," Rangers coach David Quinn said. This spring marks the 25th anniversary of one of the greatest non-Stanley Cup Finals playoff series in history -- the New York Rangers' epic seven-game Eastern Conference finals win over the New Jersey Devils. The Rangers, on their way to their first championship since 1940 that season, trailed three games to two before winning Game 6 when Mark Messier backed up his victory guarantee with a natural third-period hat trick and winning Game 7 on Stephane Matteau's goal in the second overtime. In the twilight of Henrik Lundqvist's career, it appears the New York Rangers can rest easy knowing they have a capable heir-apparent to begin filling his legendary shoes. Georgiev turned aside 29 shots on his way to his 13th win of the season and second career shutout. Continue to Article

The Carolina Hurricanes' 5-2 victory against the Philadelphia Flyers at PNC Arena on Saturday afternoon may have been the team's most important win of the season. The emotional, inspired effort by the team boosts their record to 43-28-7. With four games remaining on their schedule and 93 points to their name, they're one step closer to advancing to the postseason for the first time since 2009. Continue to Article

In a game that will help shape the final Metropolitan Division standings, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Carolina Hurricanes will meet Sunday at PPG Paints Arena. Carolina (43-28-7) can pull even with the third-place Penguins (42-25-11) in the division at 95 points each -- and would leapfrog into third place on tiebreakers, pushing Pittsburgh into an Eastern Conference wild-card spot -- with a regulation win. Pittsburgh, meanwhile, can stiff-arm the Hurricanes to at least some extent with a win. Continue to Article
