When the Boston Bruins acquired Marcus Johansson at the NHL trade deadline, he was expected to serve as veteran depth for the team and hold down a wing role on the second line. Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy expressed confidence in Johansson's abilities after practice on Friday, and he also confirmed that the team had him slotted on the first line during that session. Cassidy also cited the excellent performance of the team's second line, which featured David Pastrnak in addition to David Krejci and Jake DeBrusk, on Wednesday against the New York Rangers, as part of the impetus for putting Johansson on the first line. David Pastrnak's hilarious reason for declining visit from his mother while injured originally appeared on nbcsportsboston.com David Pastrnak missed five weeks for the Boston Bruins after suffering a thumb injury during team-sponsor dinner. After Torey Krug made his return earlier this week, the Bruins will get back a couple of more defensemen - Matt Grzelcyk and Kevan Miller - this weekend. Both skated without restriction at Friday's practice at Warrior Ice Arena and are trending toward a staggered return. Grzelcyk (right arm injury) will play Saturday afternoon against the Florida Panthers and Miller (upper body injury) will come back on Sunday night on the road against the Detroit Red Wings.
