When it came to the trade market, the Columbus Blue Jackets decided to go all-in, but it remains to be seen if they'll even get in the playoffs. The Blue Jackets certainly have a real shot of clinching a Wild Card spot, but they haven't made it easy on themselves. On Thursday they suffered a 4-1 loss to Edmonton, extending their losing streak to three games (albeit with a consolation point out of the Boston Bruins game). Due to that slump and the Canadiens' recent success, Montreal now has a one-point edge over Columbus in the playoff race. Each team has just eight games remaining. About the only silver lining for Columbus last night was that the Hurricanes suffered a 6-3 loss to Carolina, keeping them within striking distance too. The Hurricanes hold the first Wild Card spot with a three-point edge over Columbus, though Carolina also has a game in hand. Continue to Article

Connor McDavid had a goal and an assist, both in the third period, as the Edmonton Oilers rallied for a 4-1 victory against the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night. Kyle Brodziak, Zack Kassian and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also scored for the Oilers, who had lost three of their previous four games. Goaltender Mikko Koskinen, who was pulled Tuesday in a 7-2 loss in St. Louis, made 18 saves, and Leon Draisaitl assisted on all three Edmonton goals in the final period as the Oilers broke a 1-1 tie. Elias Pettersson has been a revelation in Vancouver this season, a source of hope for long-suffering Canucks fans who haven't had much to cheer about in recent years. Petterson notched an assist on Markus Granlund's second-period goal and that moved him past the great Pavel Bure for the team's rookie points record with his 61st point in what will likely end in a Calder-winning season for the young rookie.
