It was just last weekend that the Washington Capitals were outplayed in a road loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Capitals to visit White House to celebrate Stanley Cup originally appeared on nbcsportswashington.com The Washington Capitals will visit the White House nearly 10 months after winning the Stanley Cup in Vegas, sources have confirmed to NBC Sports Washington. The Lightning clinched the Presidents' Trophy for the top regular-season mark in the league with a 4-1 win over the Arizona Coyotes. The Lightning, who have 56 wins and 116 points, will try to become the ninth Presidents' Trophy winner to win the Cup. The Presidents' Trophy was first awarded by the NHL in 1985-86. The Washington Capitals have signed college free-agent forward and local product Joe Snively to a two-year entry-level contract that begins next season. General manager Brian MacLellan announced the deal Monday.
