The Flyers came out of their bye week in January and proceeded to rip off four straight wins, reducing their playoff deficit in half from 14 points to just seven in a span of six days. It looked way too easy However, over the past three-and-a-half weeks, the Flyers have just been spinning their wheels. Still, seven points back of where they need to be entering Thursday's game in Columbus, the frustrating part is the Flyers have played very respectably with a 7-4-1 mark over their last 12 games. The playoff push has already started for the Pittsburgh Penguins and they scored a huge victory on Tuesday night with a gutsy 5-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. It helped move the Penguins back into the top-eight in the Eastern Conference — for now — and came on a night where they were badly shorthanded on the back end and were playing one of the teams they are in a fierce fight with for a playoff spot … and one that just pushed all of its chips to the center of the table in a quest for a deep playoff run. Suffice to say, things got pretty dicey for the Sharks when players started getting hurt and leaving the ice during Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Bruins. No injury got more attention, though, than whatever Erik Karlsson sustained. After Kevin Hayes said plenty of goodbyes to his New York Rangers teammates during the organization's rebuild, it was finally his time to go. The Rangers traded Hayes to the Winnipeg Jets ahead of the NHL's trade deadline Monday for younger forward Brendan Lemieux, a 2019 first-round pick and a conditional 2020 fourth round pick they get only if the Jets win the Stanley Cup this spring. New York also traded defenseman Adam McQuaid to Columbus for defense prospect Julius Bergman and fourth- and seventh-round picks in this year's draft. Continue to Article
