Right wing Filip Zadina, the sixth overall pick in last year's entry draft, is expected to make his NHL debut Sunday when the Detroit Red Wings host the San Jose Sharks. Zadina has played in 45 AHL games, collecting 15 goals and 31 points. "If he plays under 10 games, for contractual reasons it makes sense, and then get back down there and play games before the playoffs," Detroit coach Jeff Blashill told the team's website. The Washington Capitals upgraded their blue line Friday by acquiring defenseman Nick Jensen from the Detroit Red Wings. Washington sent a 2020 second-round pick and defenseman Madison Bowey to Detroit for Jensen and a 2019 fifth-round pick. The Washington Capitals placed playoff hero Devante Smith-Pelly on waivers Wednesday ahead of next week's NHL trade deadline. Coach Todd Reirden told reporters in Toronto the plan was to waive winger Dmitrij Jaskin, who did not practice, but the team changed course.
