Edmonton
But as the Oilers ready for Thursday's home clash with the New York Islanders, Edmonton is in that spot where positive thoughts are being put forward as much as possible. Sure, it may be false hope, but that's what teams sitting seven points out of a playoff spot with 23 games remaining must do so long as they're not mathematically eliminated from a playoff spot. "Six of the last seven games, we've played awful well, and we've got to build on that," head coach Ken Hitchcock said. Continue to Article

Cam Talbot is lucky No. 8. The Philadelphia Flyers added Talbot to the fold late Friday night, acquiring the 31-year-old goaltender from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Anthony Stolarz. Should Talbot get into one of the Flyers' final 25 games — which he likely will — they will be the first team in NHL history to use eight goalies in a season. Continue to Article

Edmonton
The Edmonton Oilers are listening to offers for 20-year-old winger Jesse Puljujarvi and open to trading him for a proper return, TSN's Ryan Rishaug reports. And the reason for that was a roughly four-minute stretch in the second period where they stopped doing what had made them successful in the rest of the game. Continue to Article

Edmonton
Connor McDavid, the 22-year-old phenom, and Sidney Crosby, the 31-year-old long-time face of the NHL, will have one of their rare head-to-head meetings Wednesday when the Pittsburgh Penguins host the Edmonton Oilers, but the matchup could be overshadowed by team matters. Pittsburgh (29-20-7, 65 points), winner of the Stanley Cup in 2016 and '17, sits in the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference and is concerned with putting together a strong stretch drive to simply reach the playoffs. Edmonton (24-26-5, 53 points) is staring up a hill at a possible spot in the postseason in the Western Conference and sits amid a whirl of questions about the direction of the franchise with the trade deadline approaching.
