Columbus goes all-in on a playoff run, acquires Matt Duchene in first major trade of the deadline originally appeared on nbcsportswashington.com The Columbus Blue Jackets had a tough choice to make at the NHL trade deadline. It appears they made that decision Friday with a big-time trade for forward Matt Duchene. Columbus acquired Duchene and prospect Julius Bergman from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for prospects Vitaly Abramov and Jonathan Davidsson, a lotter-protected first round pick in 2019 and a conditional first-round pick in 2020. Portzline notes that the Blue Jackets haven't totally emptied their prospect cupboard (just a lot of their draft capital), so they could actually add more after landing Duchene and possibly keeping both Bobrovsky and Panarin. Cap Friendly projects the Blue Jackets' trade deadline cap space at more than $22 million, and while things can get funky when you consider prorated money, the bottom line is that Columbus has some room to work with. John Tortorella was at it again on Tuesday night, but this time the outspoken coach's antics may have gone a bit too far. With Blue Jackets forward Artemi Panarin sitting out last night's game against the Canadiens with an illness, Anthony Duclair drew back into the lineup — he was a healthy scratch the previous night when Columbus faced off against Tampa Bay. Tortorella, who was questioned on why Duclair was a healthy scratch against the Lightning, offered few words with his explanation. Continue to Article

Nobody can deny that Columbus Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella is a straight shooter. Ahead of his team's clash with the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre on Tuesday, the two-time Jack Adams Award winner was asked why his star point producer wouldn't be in the lineup. The Blue Jackets are currently hanging onto a playoff spot by the thinest of margins. Continue to Article
