The Washington Capitals waived right winger Devante Smith-Pelly on Wednesday, cutting ties with one of the heroes of their run to the Stanley Cup last season. Smith-Pelly scored seven goals in the postseason -- matching his regular-season total -- and tallied the game-tying goal during the Capitals' Cup-clinching Game 5 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights. When the Washington Capitals signed Devante Smith-Pelly to a one-year contract before the 2017-18 season they probably were not expecting him to play such a huge role in a Stanley Cup winning season. He turned out to be one of the surprising heroes of their championship run by scoring seven postseason goals, three of them coming in the Stanley Cup Final series against the Vegas Golden Knights, including the game-tying goal in their clinching Game 5 win. Darcy Kuemper stopped 21 shots and the Coyotes shut down Matthews in his return to Arizona in a 2-0 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night. Everyone wants someone on Valentine's Day and special gifts make it all the more sweet. Toronto Maple Leafs center Mitchell Marner accepted a late Valentine invite in Las Vegas, where the Maple Leafs defeated the Las Vegas Golden Knights, 6-3.
