Minnesota
Their hold on a spot in the playoffs hardly firm, the Minnesota Wild's streak of six straight postseason appearances took a hit when captain Mikko Koivu tore the ACL and meniscus in his right knee . For the 35-year-old Koivu, who has never advanced past the Western Conference semifinals and has just a 16-39 record with the Wild in the playoffs, this severe late-career injury was a most unwelcome development even for a determined, intense player like him. For general manager Paul Fenton it created an unexpected complication to an already unclear picture about how to approach the NHL trade deadline on Feb. 25. Continue to Article

The New York Islanders have been getting great goaltending from Thomas Greiss and Robin Lehner lately and they really needed it the way Cory Schneider played for the New Jersey Devils in his first game in nearly two months. Josh Bailey scored in the fourth round of the shootout, Greiss made 30 saves and the Islanders beat the Devils 2-1 on Thursday night to sweep the four-game season series. Minnesota
Mikko Koivu's season-ending injury is a brutal blow to the Minnesota Wild in 2018-19. Up to this point, the Wild have been middling at best. To Bruce Boudreau's credit, they're a team that essentially grinds opponents to paste, limiting chances against and playing suffocating defense, allowing them to overcome what's been a low-key disappointing season for Devan Dubnyk. Minnesota Wild captain Mikko Koivu will miss the rest of the season after tearing a ligament and cartilage in his right knee in an on-ice collision, a major setback for a team with a tenuous hold on a playoff spot. The 35-year-old Koivu tore his ACL and meniscus and will have surgery on Friday, the Wild announced on Wednesday. He was hurt Tuesday night at Buffalo when he collided with Sabres forward Tage Thompson in the first period of Minnesota's 5-4 shootout loss. Continue to Article
