If the Philadelphia 76ers are going to move up in the Eastern Conference standings, they might do it on the strength of their passing. Joel Embiid had 22 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists Thursday night to lead the Sixers to their seventh win in nine games, a 120-96 blowout of the Indiana Pacers. Every time it looks like the Boston Celtics (25-18) have finally turned the corner and started to play like one of the preseason betting favorites to win the Eastern Conference, they hit a bump and make you question their legitimacy all over again. In the latest case, the Celtics literally hit a bump on the road by going 0-3 straight up and against the spread on a recently completed three-game trip before heading home for Wednesday's big showdown with the East-leading Toronto Raptors (33-12) as  small opening 1-point favorites on the NBA odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Philadelphia forward Jimmy Butler's first game against his former team was no contest Tuesday as the 76ers destroyed the Minnesota Timberwolves 149-107. Sixers center Joel Embiid scored 31 points and pulled down 13 rebounds and guard Ben Simmons fell just shy of a triple-double with 20 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists in an NBA clash that Philadelphia controlled from start to finish.
