Blue Jackets show with taunting celebration that no, they still aren't over losing to the Capitals in the playoffs originally appeared on nbcsportswashington.com The Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Capitals 2-1 in overtime on Saturday thanks to an overtime goal by Artemi Panarin. It was what happened immediately afterward, however, that seemed to cause the biggest stir. When Panarin scored, he was immediately mobbed by teammates, several of whom were flapping their arms doing the birdman celebration, an apparent taunt at Evgeny Kuznetsov and the Caps. Capitals GM Brian MacLellan open to a 'player-for-player' deal before NHL trade deadline originally appeared on nbcsportswashington.com WASHINGTON -When it comes to the Feb. 25 NHL trade deadline, Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan has a specific idea of the type of deal he is open to. Disgruntled Capitals say 'not a lot of integrity' in Brad Marchand's game originally appeared on nbcsportsboston.com BOSTON – Brad Marchand apparently doesn't have too many big fans on the defending Stanley Cup champ Washington Capitals. But Marchand also got in the head of the Capitals when Lars Eller tried to get him back for an incident between the two players at the end of Boston's opening night blowout in Washington, D.C. Eller challenged Marchand to a fight during the first period, a... Continue to Article

Alex Ovechkin checks Zdeno Chara into the Capitals' bench originally appeared on nbcsportsboston.com Zdeno Chara is an absolute beast on the ice. There's just no getting around it. At 6-9, he's the tallest player to ever lace up the skates in the NHL. Continue to Article

Devante Smith-Pelly and John Carlson extended a special invitation for the Washington Capitals' Jan. 14 game against the St. Louis Blues. The Metro Maple Leafs gained national attention when they rallied around teammate Divyne Apollon II (pictured to the left of his father and sisters), who endured terrible racist taunts. While Dvorak reports that there wasn't a response from referees on hand or the opposing team's coach (either by choice or because they didn't hear the slurs sent Apollon's way), Apollon's teammates responded with anger, eventually getting into fights that ended up getting Apollon suspended for the remainder of a youth tournament.
