Tampa Bay's latest win -- the Lightning's ninth in 10 games -- came on a third-period comeback against Carolina on Thursday night. The Lightning got past the Hurricanes 3-1 to win for the ninth straight time at home. The home winning streak is tied for the second longest in franchise-history, trailing only a 10-game run in the 2014-15 season. Continue to Article

Back in May, I surmised that the Carolina Hurricanes would likely be haunted by a Jeff Skinner trade, and that was before I shared Hockey Twitter's general reaction of “that's it?” when he was sent to the Buffalo Sabres. As bad as that trade looked in August, it only seems to get worse as the 2018-19 NHL season goes along, and so the Hurricanes brass has to take it on the chin Friday, as people inevitably revisit the trade being that Skinner's making his first visit to Carolina as a member of an opposing team. Jonathan Toews misses out on All-Star Game originally appeared on nbcsportschicago.com Despite his resurgent season, Jonathan Toews will not take part in the NHL All-Star Game after Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog beat him out in the Last Men In vote. Landeskog was the winner of the vote in the NHL's Central Division, with Jeff Skinner (Buffalo Sabres), Kris Letang (Pittsburgh Penguins) and Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton Oilers) the other three players to get in. With 18 goals and 22 assists on the season, Toews has played some of the best hockey of his career this year, but the Blackhawks captain will be watching this year's All-Star festivities from home. Rick Nash retires due to health reasons; Bruins checked in on veteran originally appeared on nbcsportsboston.com Rick Nash won't be returning to the Boston Bruins -- or any NHL team, for that matter. Nash is retiring from professional hockey due to "unresolved issues/symptoms" from a concussion he suffered last March, his agency announced Friday. The 34-year-old winger joined the Bruins in February 2018 ahead of the NHL trade deadline but was believed to suffer a concussion on March 17 after taking a hard hit from Tampa Bay Lightning forward Cedric Paquette. The New Jersey Devils will play their first home game of the new year Thursday against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Devils hope the return home after a 1-3-0 road trip also will bring a return to the form that had them finish 2018 with three straight wins, two at home. New Jersey scored early in the first period Tuesday, then looked like a team that was eager to return home as they lost 5-1 to the Buffalo Sabres, allowing five second-period goals "If you look at every aspect -- the speed, the puck management, the puck battles -- it wasn't good enough to give ourselves a chance to win the game," Devils coach John Hynes said.
