Chicago
The Islanders have been one of the biggest surprises in the NHL this season. After losing John Tavares to the Toronto Maple Leafs in free agency, expectations around the Isles were fairly low. But through 38 games, New York is only one point out of a Wild Card spot (they have two games in hand on Montreal) and three points behind Columbus for third place in the Metropolitan Division. Sean Kuraly's tiebreaking goal midway through the third period carried the Boston Bruins to a 4-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2019 Bridgestone Winter Classic at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Ind., on Tuesday. Kuraly broke a 2-2 tie when he backhanded in his fourth goal of the season at 10:20 after it bounced off fourth-line teammate Chris Wagner as Boston won the 11th Winter Classic in front of a sellout crowd of 76,126, the second-largest in event history. During that adjustment period, the Blackhawks were 3-12-2 in Colliton's first 17 games as head coach, which included an eight-game losing streak where they gave up 4.86 goals per game and an 11-game span where they were outscored by 21 in the first period alone. "It's tough," Bowman said on Monday after letting out a big sigh of relief knowing they eventually snapped out of it. Continue to Article

Blackhawks veteran Cam Ward believes this will be first and last chance at outdoor game originally appeared on nbcsportschicago.com SOUTH BEND, Ind. The big question for the Blackhawks going into the 2019 Winter Classic was which goaltender they would start between the pipes: the red-hot rookie Collin Delia or 14-year veteran Cam Ward? In a surprising but not surprising decision, coach Jeremy Colliton announced on Monday that it would be Ward despite Delia winning all three of his starts this season and having a .
