Coming out of a three-day holiday break, the Chicago Blackhawks are hoping to re-establish some of the momentum they have built of late. Although their record isn't close to where they would like it to be, the Blackhawks (13-20-6) are 4-2-1 over the past seven games heading into their home date with the Minnesota Wild on Thursday at the United Center. It was an eventful year across the hockey world with several memorable moments that stood out. After years of tremendous regular season success and eventual playoff heartbreak, the Washington Capitals finally broke through their second round glass ceiling, exorcised all of their postseason demons, beat their arch-rivals the Pittsburgh Penguins, and then went on to win their first ever Stanley Cup. Even though it was a missed opportunity, the Blackhawks have done a lot of good things over the last two weeks. Here are some positives: - The Blackhawks have scored the first goal in five of their last seven games after going 11 straight without doing so. They gave up only four goals during their three-game winning streak after allowing at least three goals in each of their previous 14 games. Continue to Article

The Blackhawks got off to another good start. Since that point, however, the Panthers scored five of the next six goals - three of which came in the second period, including two within a 31-second span - to go up 5-2. The Blackhawks got one back from Dylan Strome, who had a career-high three points, at the midway mark of the third period to cut their deficit to 5-3 but that's all they would get before the Panthers scored an empty-netter to put the game out of reach.
