The Montreal Canadiens and the Boston Bruins will renew their long rivalry Monday at Bell Centre with both teams fighting for playoff spots in the Eastern Conference. The Canadiens (17-11-5), who hold the first wild-card position in the Eastern Conference, lead the Bruins (17-12-4), who hold the second wild-card position, by one point. The Canadiens defeated the Bruins 3-0 on Oct. 27 in Boston and the Bruins defeated the Canadiens 3-2 on Nov. 24 at Bell Centre. Continue to Article

Defensive breakdowns catching up with B's in last few games originally appeared on nbcsportsboston.com BOSTON – With the news that a return for injured Patrice Bergeron might be coming over the next week or so, it really can't come fast enough at this point for the Bruins. The Bruins lost their second game in a row when they dropped a 4-2 decision to the Buffalo Sabres at TD Garden on Sunday night that featured a few too many defensive miscues at key times, average goaltending and nothing more than decent offense. Jack Eichel fondly remembers sitting with his dad in the TD Garden stands, watching his favorite hockey players. Eichel had two goals and two assists, including the primary helper on Jeff Skinner's winning goal with 3:13 remaining, to lead the Buffalo Sabres past the Boston Bruins 4-2. ''I just picture myself in the crowd watching guys that I loved watching when I was a kid,'' Eichel said. Continue to Article

Highlights from Bruins' 4-2 loss to Sabres originally appeared on nbcsportsboston.com FINAL SCORE: Sabres 4, Bruins 2 FROM HAGGERTY It was fun watching Charlie McAvoy and Jack Eichel go head-to-head a little bit in the first period as fellow Boston University alumnae. Eichel used a toe drag move to go right around McAvoy on a drive to the net that ended with a wraparound reverse chance that Tuukka Rask was able to stop. It was not as much fun for Bruins fans watching the Chelmsford native wheel around former BU teammate Matt Grzelcyk for the go-ahead goal in the third period. Continue to Article

Montreal
A no-goal call in the third period fueled the Montreal Canadiens to a comeback victory over the Ottawa Senators. Shea Weber scored the tiebreaking goal in Montreal's four-goal third period and the Canadiens rallied for 5-2 win over Ottawa on Saturday night, beating the Senators for the third time in 12 days. After Montreal's Jesperi Kotkaniemi tied the score 2-2 at 2:06 of the third, the Canadiens appeared to take the lead less than 90 seconds later when Phillip Danault put the puck behind Senators goalie Mike McKenna.
