Daniel Sprong has been an Anaheim Duck for less than two weeks. Traded to Anaheim Dec. 3 by Pittsburgh, Sprong scored twice - including in overtime - to lift the Ducks over the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1 and begin a five-game trip on a positive note. Adam Henrique won a faceoff in the Ducks offensive zone before skating in to screen goalie Sergei Bobrovsky, allowing Sprong to move above the right circle and snap a shot to the top corner of the net 1:19 into the extra period. The evening started just fine for the reeling Los Angeles Kings, who scored first on the road against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Columbus, which hasn't won at home since Nov. 29, answered quickly and Sergei Bobrovsky denied the Kings the rest of the way as the Blue Jackets cruised to a 4-1 win on Thursday night. Lukas Sedlak got his first goal of the season - his first in 53 games dating to last Dec. 20 - and Artemi Panarin ended a personal five-game goal drought with two tallies as the Blue Jackets snapped a two-game losing streak. The last time the Columbus Blue Jackets played the Los Angeles Kings in early November, they were struggling with consistency. Fast forward a month and the Blue Jackets still haven't figured out how to be more consistent. The Blue Jackets scored 47 seconds into the game, when Seth Jones' shot from the high slot glanced off the Canucks' Jay Beagle and past Markstrom's glove. After a scoreless second period, Leivo got a deflection off his skate 8:11 into the third to make it 1-1. The Washington Capitals seemed a step faster than the discombobulated Columbus Blue Jackets all night long and took full advantage of some early opportunities. The result was a 4-0 win by the Capitals over the Blue Jackets on Saturday that seemed so easy it was difficult to tell at times that these were two teams fighting for the lead in the rugged Metropolitan Division.
