The Carolina Hurricanes are justified in their search for a top-six forward/sniper, but whenever a team goes shopping for a trade, they should also ask if they’re taking advantage of the ingredients at hand. Looking at certain underlying numbers (as PHT did earlier in December), it seems fair to wonder if Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour should take the training wheels off of Svechnikov, and just let him fly. Yes, there are risks when it comes to really unleashing rookies – particularly in Svechnikov, who’s made an immediate jump after being the second pick of the 2018 NHL Draft – but the rewards can often be worth it. One of the wildest scenes in hockey this season played out in the KHL this past week when Chicago Blackhawks prospect Artur Kayumov delivered a brutal headshot to an opponent, punched a referee, and then attempted to pump up the crowd as he was escorted off the ice. Loko's forward Artur Kayumov suspended for 13 games after a hit to the head of @jokerithc's Jesper Jensen. The incident happened on Friday when Kayumov, currently playing for Yaroslavl Lokomotiv, hit Jokerit’s Jesper Jensen in the second period of Jokerit’s 3-0 win. Continue to Article

A month ago, the Anaheim Ducks were coming off a seven-game losing streak and it seemed Randy Carlyle's job as head coach was in serious jeopardy. The Ducks have turned things around, however, and can match the longest winning streak in Carlyle's 13-year NHL head coaching career with a win against the visiting Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night.
