Jakub Vrana scored in the sixth round of a shootout to give the Washington Capitals a 6-5 victory against the host Carolina Hurricanes in a thriller in which Washington's Alex Ovechkin posted a hat trick for the second straight game Friday night in Raleigh, N.C. The Capitals overcame a three-goal hole, with Ovechkin breaking a 4-4 tie with 10:11 to play in regulation on a power-play goal. Ovechkin scored his 26th, 27th and 28th goals of the season, notching a goal in each period. Alex Ovechkin entered God Mode on Friday night to lead the Washington Capitals back from a 4-1 deficit in a 6-5 shootout win. The only thing that Ovechkin didn’t do on the night was score the shootout winner, which he had a chance. Jeff Skinner got his 22nd goal of the season, Casey Mittelstadt and Evan Rodrigues also scored and the Sabres beat the Arizona Coyotes 3-1 on Thursday night for their second consecutive victory. It was the first time since Nov. 21 that the Sabres won in regulation. Rather than lament another sloppy performance after being booed off the ice at the end of the second period, Jack Eichel and the Buffalo Sabres decided to do something about it. Eichel scored and had a hand in setting up Jeff Skinner's power-play goal 1:49 into overtime, and the Sabres overcame a two-goal deficit in the third to beat the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 on Tuesday night. ''Coming in here after 40 minutes and you're down two goals, and you just had a couple of days off and you're at home, there's got to be some type of emotional response from the room,'' said Eichel, noting the Sabres were also smarting from a 6-2 loss to Philadelphia on Saturday.
