Auston Matthews‘ bad injury luck continues. Good thing the Maple Leafs won The John Tavares Sweepstakes, then, right? Thursday presented the latest example of that free-agent gift that keeps giving, as Tavares and the Maple Leafs beat the San Jose Sharks 5-3 in a game that was frequently filling. Continue to Article

The San Jose Sharks seemed intent to go after Nazem Kadri right from the start. John Tavares opened the scoring just after a power-play for an early run at Kadri ended and Kasperi Kapanen had two goals, including a short-handed tally that broke a tie in the second period and sent the Maple Leafs to their fifth win in six games, 5-3 over the Sharks on Thursday night. The Sharks scored three consecutive goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation, including two less than 40 seconds apart to erase a two-goal deficit, to come back for a stunning 5-4 win. Brent Burns‘ goal with just 2:52 to play proved to be the game-winner, and it was made possible thanks to quick goals from Brendan Dillon and Joe Pavelski just a few minutes earlier to tie the game.
