Winnipeg Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey has been fined $8,468 but not suspended for unsportsmanlike conduct against Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie. The NHL's department of player safety announced the punishment Thursday after a disciplinary hearing with Morrissey. Morrissey threw Oshie to the ice late in the Jets' victory over the Capitals on Wednesday night. Continue to Article

It's been five months since the Washington Capitals clinched their first-ever Stanley Cup championship, but some Caps fans are still going the distance to remind the Penguins of their title win. Sampson Coe, a Maryland-native and an avid Capitals fan, traveled all the way to the Antarctic Peninsula to remind actual penguins who the Stanley Cup champions are. It's no wonder the Washington Capitals are suffering from a serious Stanley Cup hangover. It's not uncommon for the winners of hockey's holy grail to get off to a slow start the following season but when you consider how much liquor the Capitals players consumed during a seemingly summer-long party -- particularly captain Alex Ovechkin -- it's conceivable that their heads could ache until Christmas. The Capitals are outside of the top eight spots in the Eastern Conference and granted, there are still more than 60 games to go, but they have a target on their backs that they haven't had previously. Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson had his 20-game suspension reduced to 14 games by a neutral arbitrator on Tuesday and became eligible to play immediately, scoring a goal and taking two penalties in 16:47 of ice time at Minnesota in a 5-2 win over the Wild . Wilson already served 16 games of his suspension for an illegal check to the head of St. Louis forward Oskar Sundqvist in each team's preseason finale. The ruling by Shyam Das allowed Wilson to will recoup $378,049 of the $1.26 million he initially forfeited as part of the suspension. Continue to Article
