An early November home game against an out-of-conference team that hasn't made the playoffs the past six years has taken on added importance for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Pittsburgh (6-5-3) not only has lost five straight games going into a date with the Arizona Coyotes (7-6-1) on Saturday at PPG Paints Arena, but the Penguins also have the pressure of responding to strong comments made by their general manager. The Columbus Blue Jackets will visit the Capitals Friday for the teams' first meeting since their first-round Stanley Cup playoff series last Spring. Carolina quarterback Cam Newton will wear a pair of "stronger than hate" cleats on Thursday night when the Panthers take on the Steelers at Heinz Field to honor the victims of the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh. Evgeni Malkin will not have a disciplinary hearing for his shoulder to the head of T.J. Oshie during the Pittsburgh Penguins’ 2-1 loss at the Washington Capitals. Two people with direct knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press that Malkin would not face a hearing with the NHL department of player safety and therefore won’t be suspended. With Pittsburgh on the power play early in the third period, Malkin passed the puck and lifted his right shoulder into Oshie’s head and kept skating. Continue to Article
