While mere mortal franchises struggle to convince their William Nylanders and Jacob Troubas to stick around, the Tampa Bay Lightning find ways to sign homegrown talent to what are almost always absolute bargain deals. Apparently they’re continuing to do so now that Julien BriseBois is in charge as GM instead of Steve Yzerman. Huge game for Timo Meier on Sunday night as he recorded his first career three-point game in the Sharks’ 4-3 overtime win against the Anaheim Ducks. Meier scored two goals, giving him eight on the season, including the game-winning goal in overtime. After scoring 21 goals in his first full NHL season a year ago, Meier looks like he is well on his way to topping all of his point totals as he already has 12 points in 11 games for the Sharks. Jonathan Marchessault had never attempted a penalty shot in his NHL career. Marchessault earned a penalty shot after being hooked by Mark Stone on what would have been a breakaway, and beat goalie Craig Anderson to lift the Vegas Golden Knights to a 4-3 overtime victory over the Ottawa Senators. The reigning Norris Trophy winner is expected to be sidelined at least a week after getting drilled by Vegas Golden Knights forward Ryan Reaves on Friday. The Tampa Bay Lightning said Saturday that Victor Hedman will be re-evaluated in a weeks’ time after getting catapulted awkwardly into the boards after Reaves laid the open ice hit.
