Chicago
In the short term, the Edmonton Oilers must tighten up a porous penalty-killing unit. Edmonton seeks a split of a two-game homestand Thursday night when it faces the high-scoring Chicago Blackhawks for the second time this week. Edmonton gave up three power-play goals in as many chances and has surrendered six man-advantage goals in 14 opportunities over the last three contests. Continue to Article

The Blackhawks certainly looked like the better team in this one, but glaring turnovers proved to be costly and they gifted their opponent a pair of goals. On the third that put the Canucks in front 3-2, which turned out to be the game winner, Jonathan Toews made an uncharacterstic pass in his own end that ended up right on Brendan Gaunce's tape and he buried it in the slot. It wasn’t so long ago that the Oilers’ start was a punchline. Literally every goal of their season was running through Connor McDavid exclusively, and it took until Game No. 5 before someone scored a goal at 5-on-5 without the best player alive getting in on the action. People were starting to talk very seriously about how good this team can be after kind of writing them off all summer and having a good laugh at the expense of everyone on the team who is not McDavid or one of his linemates. As they embark on their longest road trip ever, the Minnesota Wild managed to bounce back from a loss in Vancouver despite playing for the second night in a row. Mikael Granlund scored with 5:48 left, Eric Staal had a goal and two assists, and the Wild beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 on Tuesday night. Granlund sneaked a power-play goal past netminder Cam Talbot for his sixth of the season. Continue to Article
