The Pittsburgh Penguins scored a lot of goals in Alberta — 15 in two games, to be exact. Patric Hornqvist and Phil Kessel each scored twice and the Penguins pounded the Calgary Flames 9-1 on Thursday night. Sidney Crosby, Bryan Rust, Jack Johnson, Jake Guentzel and Matt Cullen also scored, and Matt Murray made 38 saves to help the Penguins improve to 5-1-2 overall and 3-0 on a four-game Canadian trip. The Edmonton Oilers got a signature early-season victory - and not just because it came against the defending Stanley Cup champions. Rookie Evan Bouchard scored his first goal, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had a goal and an assist and the Oilers beat the Washington Capitals 4-1 on Thursday night. Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson's 20-game suspension for an illegal check to an opponent's head in a preseason game was upheld by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman on Thursday. The NHL Players' Association appealed on Wilson's behalf, arguing that his hit did not break a rule and so there should have been no suspension at all — but that if there were to be one, 20 games was "excessive" and eight would have been more appropriate. Wilson was ejected for his hit on St. Louis Blues center Oskar Sundqvist in the second period of the teams' exhibition game on Sept. 30, causing a concussion, cuts to the face and a sprained right shoulder.
