The weekend before the NBA season started, trade talks to send Jimmy Butler to the Heat went far enough that Minnesota and Miami shared medical data on players potentially in the deal. After that the season started, Miami backed off some, and there seemed to be little movement on the Butler trade front. Now the Rockets have started 1-3 with an offense and defense in the NBA’s bottom 11, and they will be without James Harden for at least a couple of games and new wing defender James Ennis longer than that. OK, so maybe Brett Brown didn't go full Clubber Lang last month when discussing the Sixers' installation of a new defensive scheme, but he did anticipate there would be struggles. After ranking 11th in the NBA by giving up 105.3 points per game last season, the Sixers wanted to get even better. When defensive-minded Lloyd Pierce took over the head coaching job in Atlanta, the Sixers enlisted Monty Williams to take over those responsibilities and add some different principles that would make the franchise the league's top squad in that department. After a cold start, Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks offense again roared to life, including a near-record output in the second quarter. Before celebrating the scoring outburst, coach Mike Budenholzer wanted to talk about his team's second-half defense after a 123-108 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night.
