SAN JOSE -- The term "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out" may be worn out and cliche, but that's exactly what happened between the Sharks and Islanders in their rematch Saturday night at SAP Center. Timo Meier got everything started by knocking in his own rebound about half-way through the first period to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead. New York had a little more zip at the start of the second stanza, but the Sharks took back the lead as Antti Suomela fed his own rebound to Joonas Donskoi, who chipped the puck in behind Robin Lehner for a 2-1 lead. A dominant first period and a three-goal lead had the Florida Panthers feeling a little too good about cruising toward their first victory of the season. "You feel comfortable, but I think we can't feel too comfortable," forward Jonathan Huberdeau said. The Panthers blew that lead and allowed the tying goal with 85 seconds left in regulation before Huberdeau scored the shootout winner to beat the Washington Capitals 6-5 on Friday night and end a four-game season-opening skid. Vancouver Canucks head coach Travis Green didn’t need to mince words when he was asked about the controversial hit that knocked one of his star players out of Saturday’s game. Pettersson, as you will see below, put a nice move on Matheson moments before the hit. The Vancouver Canucks and Florida Panthers won’t see one another again until the middle of January, but there will still be plenty of hard feelings following their Saturday night encounter. Canucks’ stud rookie Elias Pettersson is in concussion protocol, per Sportsnet, after he was body-slammed to the ice early in the third period of Vancouver’s 3-2 victory by Panthers defenseman Michael Matheson.
