Jordan Lynch is returning to NIU as an assistant coach. Northern Illinois is adding a familiar face to its staff, as former Heisman finalist Jordan Lynch has joined the Huskies as their running backs coach. Lynch, whose third-place finish in the Heisman Trophy voting in 2013 marked the highest finish in Mid-American Conference history, most recently spent two years as quarterback with the Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL. Life goes on as a football independent at BYU after the Big 12 decided against expansion in October. Athletic director Tom Holmoe said there was no bitterness toward the conference after months of expansion talk and presentations from universities led to the league not accepting any new members. Those crying for less bowl games can start celebrating, as the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl is bidding farewell after 12 years, the city’s bowl game association announced Wednesday. The association’s board of directors voted to keep just one of its two games going forward in 2017: the Holiday Bowl. “College football and the bowl game structure has gone through major changes through the years and our board feels the time is right to focus our efforts on one post-season game,” Mark Neville, executive director of the San Diego Bowl Game Association, said in a release. ...
