It wasn’t pretty, but the Panthers got their first win of the season. The Detroit Red Wings are now the last remaining winless team at 0-5-2, but in defense of the Panthers, they haven’t gotten as many opportunities this season.  The Panthers’ game against Washington last night was just Florida’s fifth game of the season and with that win, the Panthers are now 1-2-2.  Florida will also be playing against Detroit tonight.  It could have been the Losers Cup, but now it will be Detroit fighting to join the rest of the league in the win column. It’s still worth noting those comments, though, so soak in what Red Wings GM Ken Holland said when The Hockey News’ Ken Campbell asked him about possibly “looking over his shoulder” at Yzerman. “I’ve been a manager in the league for 23 years,” Holland said. While the Tampa Bay Lightning wait for All-Stars Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov to find an early-season groove, they have others who can carry the load. The Detroit Red Wings, meanwhile, are just trying to find any kind of a spark to get their season moving in the right direction as they enter Thursday's game in Tampa. Last season, the Lightning bolted to the top of the standings behind the play of Stamkos and Kucherov -- Stamkos had 24 points in October while Kucherov had 13 goals. Continue to Article
