What’s tougher: stopping Artemi Panarin or figuring out what the Columbus Blue Jackets should do with him? Say what you will about John Tortorella, but he’s smart enough to know when he should just stay out of the way, and that’s what he did with Panarin, allowing him to stay on the ice long enough to win the game. Things most definitely feel a little different about the Boston Bruins headed into the NHL regular season. The last couple of seasons the Bruins were introducing young players into their lineup and the expectations were pretty modest. Making the playoffs was the true goal after missing the postseason cut for a couple of years in a row, and playing hard every night, or most nights anyway, was a habit the Bruins were trying to get back into after those two aforementioned lost seasons at the end of the Claude Julien era. 1.     Tampa Bay Lightning – They didn't land the grand slam attempt at Erik Karlsson, but the Lightning are still the class of the Atlantic Division. Adding Ryan McDonagh last season to what they already have should make them a force in the East for years to come. 2.     Toronto Maple Leafs – Obviously things are going to have to play out with a defense that's still not quite top notch, but the Leafs are going to be able score goals and produce offense with anybody after adding John Tavares to the existing group. Longtime NHL forward Scott Hartnell announced his retirement Monday after 17 seasons. "Seventeen years in the NHL was the best job anyone could ever ask for," Hartnell tweeted. "The games, the fans, the travel, the hotels, the food, the pregame soccer games, are just some of the things that I will always remember and miss."
