Chi Cubs
The Washington Nationals outlasted the weather and the Chicago Cubs on Saturday night — and early Sunday. Bryce Harper hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning and the Nationals rallied past the Cubs 6-5 to sweep a doubleheader delayed more than 3½ hours by rain. Chi Cubs
With so much attention focused on Daniel Murphy's return to Washington for the first time since he was traded to the Chicago Cubs, it was his in-game replacement - David Bote - who once again tormented the Nationals. Bote had a pinch-hit RBI double and scored in the 10th inning as the Cubs came back to beat the Nationals 6-4 on Thursday night in the opener of a four-game series. Bote, who hit a two-out grand slam in the bottom of the ninth to give the Cubs a 4-3 win over Washington on Aug. 12 at Wrigley Field, knocked a 100 mph fastball from Jimmy Cordero (1-2) into right field to score Albert Almora Jr. Bote came home on a single by pinch-hitter Taylor Davis. David Bote lined a tiebreaking double to right-center in the top of the 10th inning, and Taylor Davis added an RBI single later as the Chicago Cubs defeated the Washington Nationals 6-4 in the opener of a four-game series Thursday night at Nationals Park. Albert Almora Jr. started the game-winning rally with a one-out double off Jimmy Cordero (1-2) in the top of the frame. Bote followed with his double, and even though Almora held up for a moment to make sure the ball wasn't caught, he scored easily from second base with the go-ahead run. Continue to Article
