Jacob deGrom struck out 12 and the New York Mets backed him in a big way, hitting five home runs while battering Luis Severino and the New York Yankees 8-5 Monday night. Amed Rosario led off this Subway Series matchup with a drive into the right-field seats and Jose Bautista, Todd Frazier, Brandon Nimmo and Michael Conforto later connected. Ahead of Monday night’s game against the Mets, the Yankees announced that starter CC Sabathia has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with inflammation in his right knee. The move allows the club to open up a spot on the 25-man roster for pitcher George Kontos, whose contract has been selected from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Uncomfortable watching his teammates play without him and uncertain how he would fare after spending two weeks on the disabled list, Chris Sale was both excited and curious as he prepared to pitch again for the Boston Red Sox.
