If the Chicago Cubs needed a shot in the arm heading into what could prove to be a pivotal two-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers starting Tuesday at Wrigley Field, David Bote certainly delivered. Bote's walk-off grand slam on Sunday delivered a 4-3 victory over the Washington Nationals that not only provided the first-place Cubs a series victory but extended their lead over the Brewers in what remains a tightly contested race in the National League Central. St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Luke Weaver cut his finger while opening a food tray in the clubhouse at Kansas City and was scratched from his start against the Royals. Weaver had been scheduled to pitch Sunday. The accident occurred Saturday night when the righty sliced the index finger on his pitching hand on the aluminum foil covering a tray. Continue to Article

WASHINGTON—The Washington Nationals scratched outfielder Bryce Harper from Thursday’s lineup with right knee soreness. Atlanta reliever Dan Winkler hit Harper just below the right knee in the seventh inning of the Braves’ 8-3 victory on Wednesday. Washington manager Dave Martinez said X-rays on Harper were negative.
