Chi White Sox
The Cleveland Indians lost one of their best pitchers Tuesday when they placed right-hander Trevor Bauer on the 10-day disabled list with a small stress fracture in his right leg. Cleveland is in complete control in the AL Central, leading second-place Minnesota by 12 1/2 games coming into the day. Bauer was struck by Jose Abreu's liner in the seventh inning of Saturday night's 3-1 win at the Chicago White Sox. Continue to Article

Let's make one thing very clear: Rick Hahn has said for months that what is occurring at the major league level this season will have no bearing on when the White Sox opt to promote their top prospects. It's been a very logical stance the entire time, with the big league team not expected to contend for a playoff spot, and that has indeed been what has happened, the White Sox dropping to 33 games below .500 with Sunday's loss to the visiting Cleveland Indians. It's no wonder then that the Tigers put sparklers along the path Morris would take from the dugout to a stage behind the mound at Comerica Park on Sunday, when they retired his No. 47. Two weeks ago, he was enshrined into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. "Detroit is a part of who I am," he told the fans and his former teammates gathered for the ceremony before the start of the Tigers' game against his hometown Minnesota Twins, for whom Morris also played. On an August night in this future-facing season, the White Sox momentarily took a look to the past. Jim Thome, the Land of Lincoln native who spent four seasons on the South Side and immediately became a fan favorite, was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame earlier this summer, and the White Sox honored him before Saturday's game against the Cleveland Indians, the team whose cap Thome is sporting on his Hall of Fame plaque. As fun as it was for fans to get to see the team celebrate one of the all-time greats - they lined up for his bobblehead and gave him a standing ovation during the pregame ceremony - Thome is also a part of this rebuilding effort on the South Side.
