The defending World Series champion Houston Astros aren't used to struggling. Without All-Star middle infielders Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa, who are both on the disabled list, the Astros suffered their season-high fifth straight defeat Monday night, a 2-0 loss to the American League West-rival Seattle Mariners. James Paxton wanted a healthy return from the disabled list and a chance to beat the first-place Houston Astros. Paxton excelled in his first start since suffering lower back inflammation in Anaheim on July 12, and he needed to in order to outduel Houston starter Gerrit Cole, who had a perfect game through four innings.
