BALTIMORE — Orioles shortstop Manny Machado was removed from Baltimore’s game against Texas in the fifth inning, setting off speculation the All-Star had been traded. The exit came shortly after a 26-minute rain delay Sunday left the field at Camden Yards in poor, sloppy condition. Because Machado is expected to be dealt by the last-place Orioles before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, his departure from the game was seemingly notable. The Texas Raners post-All Star Break rotation has been announced, and Martin Perez will be the pitcher getting the ball in the first game post-break. Following Perez will be Bartolo Colon, then Cole Hamels, followed by Yovani Gallardo and Mike Minor. Perez has missed two months due to an injury to his non-pitching elbow, and the Rangers want him to get as many innings as possible, in part to get him work and in part to evaluate him in order to make the best decision on whether to exercise the team option on him for 2019. Minor, meanwhile, has had his workload managed in what is his first season back in the rotation after missing time due to injury and then pitching in a relief role last year, so this gets him extra rest out of the break. The longest-tenured player in the organization will likely be traded in the coming weeks – or days – before the July 31 nonwaiver trade deadline.
